Weekend Cuteness

Hannah is a bright light in so many lives!!  Here she and GG are playing together Sunday afternoon.  So sweet!!

Can I say I love the ways motherhood has changed me.  Before Hannah if you’d asked me if I’d let my daughter play in puddles in her Sunday dress or, pair the dress with rain boots, I’d have definitely said, ‘No way.’  One of the many things I’ve learned from Hannah and other moms around me is that life is far too short to worry about keeping dresses neat and pairing shoes with them.  Sure, on Sunday mornings for church she is dressed nicely with her hair combed and matching shoes but once church is over it’s fair game.  As long as she’s not painting or something like that I let her enjoy being 2 in whatever she’s wearing.  (Thank you M3 for teaching me this very important lesson!)

Stopping to smell the flowers.  Hannah and I hung out in front of our house for almost an hour just playing in the dandelions.  One more lesson learned.

Me and My Shadow

For the past couple of months Hannah has enjoyed hanging out in the bathroom with me as I get ready for the day.  At first she’d bring in toys and books and just want to be close but recently she’s been paying more attention and watching Mommy.  She’ watches me put my make-up on each morning and I reminded her (as she puts on her pretend make-up) that she is beautiful just as she is and doesn’t need make-up until she’s older like Bec Bec but she still likes to play.  (Bec Bec is too young for make-up too but she’s an ‘older’ cousin that Hannah knows well.)

This week she stepped it up a little (literally as she now stands on her potty step stool) and now wants to wash her own face and brush her teeth with mommy.

Washing her face after reminding Mommy of one of her current favourite sayings, ‘I can do it all myself!’

A perk to not ringing out the face cloth before washing your face is that you can wash your feet with the cascade of water that drips down to your feet!

Another bonus is the puddles on the counter are great for splashing in when Mommy is busy washing her own face.

Face soaking washing is followed by teeth brushing.  A combination of Hannah brushing them first then Mommy takes a turn.

And, her favourite part!  Spitting into the sink!  Getting the chance to spit makes it all worth while for my sometimes less than enthusiastic tooth brusher.

Time to get dressed and we’re ready to face another wonderful day together!

Mama’s Favourite Christmas Book

If you’ve been here for any amount of time you’ve noticed that my sweet daughter loves to be on the move.  Climbing, jumping and running are a part of her daily life and she loves to move, move, move.  Because of this, story time is pretty limited.  There are certain times of the day that she’ll sit to read but unfortunately when I tried to record this little video it was close to bedtime and that means her energy was peaked.  I used to misinterpret her energy and think that she wasn’t tired but in reality she has more and more energy, the more tired she gets.  She goes, goes, goes and then crashes when I give her her bedtime bottle and then normally sleeps for 10-11 hours.  I tease that she has 2 speeds:  Fast forward and Sleep!

The book that we were reading together in this video is called, ‘The Very First Christmas’ and is put out by Hallmark.   The reason I like this book so much is that not only is it the story of Jesus’ birth but it is a recordable book where you record voices reading the story.  This book has 7 pages in it which is perfect for us.  In the order of reading are:  Grandma (my Mom), Grandpa (my Dad), Nana (friend Sharon), Papa (friend Larry), Great-Grandma (GG) Dale and Great-Grandpa (GG) Dale (Sharon’s parents) and Mama (me!) 

The other neat thing about this recording is that there are numerous places where you can hear Hannah’s sweet little voice in the background.  Unfortunately she took a little tumble when GG was reading his page and you can hear her cry but it fit the story well so we decided to leave it in.  Each time we get to that page she looks at me as it to ask if it’s baby Jesus that is crying?

This book is a treasure now and will be for years to come too!

Hannah’s Interpretation of the Story of Jesus’ Birth

Hannah has a great little FP nativity set.  Most days we play with the people and animals and retell the story of Jesus’ birth and the scene looks something like this:

With the exception of 1 AWOL king it’s pretty much the way it goes.

The other night Hannah decided to mix things up a bit and her interpretation was hilarious!  I love her creativity!  The angel atop the stable has been replaced with a sheep.  Makes sense.  And, each of the fence posts where she could find a spot she placed one of the characters.  Cute!

 

I have another post to put up about a new Christmas tradition.  Will try to get it up later today.

Hide and Seek ~ Hannah Style

Today Hannah and I had an unexpected day together as she woke with a fever and wanted nothing but cuddles and snuggles with mommy.  She’d had a rough night which is unlike her, with a couple of periods of crying where I just couldn’t settle her.  Normally she goes down well and wakes once or twice in the evening and then once Mommy goes to bed too and she snuggles close and is gone for the night.  Last night’s sessions were my first hints that something was up.

Thankfully she reacted well to the Infant Tylenol and Advil I gave her and by the afternoon she was her happy self.  Please ignore the dirty jammies.  They were fresh in the morning but a day of not feeling well = extra treats if it means she would eat something.

Here she is playing Hannah style of Hide and Seek.  Absolutely adorable!!  I love how she hides the stuff herself but still pretends she can’t find it.  She made this game up herself while we were playing in our room.  So cute!

I also found out this past weekend that our cable company is now carrying Playhouse Disney 24/7.  Yay!!!  It was nice to have this as an option at 3:30 this morning and she was totally inconsolable.  After more than half an hour of crying I turned it on and within a minute she’d stopped crying and within 5 was back to sleep.  I totally get this as sometimes in the middle of the night when things are going around in my head I just need a couple of minutes of TV to distract my thoughts.  Like mother, like daughter.

What an unexpected treat it was to spend today with my daughter!

It was all good until the almonds started flying!

Most mornings as I’m making my lunch Hannah is in her high chair eating breakfast and we ‘chat’ while I putter in the kitchen.  This morning she was finished before I was so I decided to let her help me pack my lunch.  She was having a great time putting everything into the lunch bag and taking it back out again but then I gave her a little piece of plastic wrap that had some slivered almonds in it.  Before I knew it there were almonds flying everywhere and she was having fun making it ‘rain’!  :o)  

 

It may take a little longer to get things done with my little helper by my side but I wouldn’t have it any other way!!
