Flood Repairs–It’s Almost Time and We’re Ready!!

It’s been 7 weeks since our flood and finally it’s almost time for the repairs to be started.  Hannah and I couldn’t be more ready!

2 weeks ago they repaired the missing ceiling and I will say it made a much bigger difference then I realized it would and it was a welcome change.  We’d been living with a gaping hole in the living room and kitchen for 5 weeks when the repair took place.IMG_4518

I was surprised how much every day noise went from floor to floor but I guess it makes sense when all that was separating the 2 floors was a sheet of plywood.  It did make it easy to call her for dinner though. Smile

It was such a treat to drive home and see a repair truck in the driveway.IMG_4706 - Copy

Taped and mudded.  I’d considered leaving the ceiling flat but it would be an additional cost to do so and in these days of finding extra $’s here and there it was an easy decision to have them put the popcorn ceiling back up.IMG_4708

It was still wet here thus the variety of colours.  IMG_4712

One of the things that happened in a number of locations that I hadn’t anticipated was that the ceiling paint bled onto the walls.  IMG_4784

I will say that I noticed it but just figured it was normal.  I was pleasantly surprised when I found out they will probably be repainting the main floor because of it.  What a treat!!  A fresh coat of paint make such a difference!  I’m going to go with a similar colour to what I have as everything has been chosen with the current colour in mind but will just be lightening it up a bit.IMG_4788

I received information from the contractor that the rest of the repairs should be completed next week and the week after.  Woot!!  We’ve been on hold waiting for the carpet to arrive but it should be in by Friday and the repairs can start next Monday.  Yay!

In the meantime, Hannah and Auntie Deb gave me these beautiful flowers to brighten our home and what a treat they are!!  IMG_4785

Easter 2017 ~ Easter Sunday

Easter Sunday is such an amazing day!  A day we celebrate that Christ is Risen!!  Easter is always a special time and it always reminds me of the Easter Sunday 4 years ago when my precious little girl invited Jesus to live in her heart!

Before going to church Hannah had fun gathering the eggs and treats.DSC_2302

Hannah was adorable as she looked for her bunny and treat.  Her dance at the end is the sweetest!

Time for a few pics after church while we waited for Nana and Papa to get home.IMG_4729

Easter 2017 Family Fun

Hannah and I have enjoyed a wonderful Easter weekend and the great part is we still have one more day together!  Woot woot!

Friday afternoon we enjoyed a family Easter dinner at Mom and Dad’s.  The Easter Bunny knew we were celebrating early and made a special delivery for the kids!DSC_2297

It’s always a treat when the weather cooperates and the kids can hunt in the back yard.

Hannah (Lol – please ignore the gaping hole in the knee of her pants.  She took her bike out for a first spin of the season and had an unfortunate meeting with the pavement going around a corner.  ouch!)DSC_2281

Saturday we were excited to head into the city with Dave and Trish and the kids to meet up with our cousin, his wife and son.  It was a treat to spend time together as they live quite a distance away so we don’t get to see one another nearly as often as we would like.

Uncle Dave humoured us as we spent a good amount of time in the Disney Store so we wanted to make sure he enjoyed some shopping enjoyment too.IMG_4726

Going to the Zoo, Zoo, Zoo!

This week Hannah went on a field trip with her class for the very first time since she was 5yo and in JK.  I was excited when her teacher invited me to join them as a parent volunteer.

The day was overcast yet a perfect temperature and the zoo was empty!  In our past experiences we’ve always need to dodge other people to see the animals so it was such a treat to walk up to exhibits without fighting crowds.

The day was really well organized and run too.  We started with about a 30 min session in a classroom where the children learned about habitation, migration and more.  This picture brings tears to my eyes as Hannah is adding a picture to the board after raising her hand and answering a question. IMG_4647 - Copy (2) In the 4 years that I have helped in her classes I think I can count on one hand the number of times that I have seen Hannah raise her hand to answer a question or participate in class this way.   She’s always been concerned with not giving the correct answer so she just wouldn’t offer an answer.  Her teacher this year has been working with her to help her gain confidence in answering questions and it was breath taking to sit back and see Hannah not only raise her hand more than once!  Thank you Ashley!!!

After the classroom session we headed out in small groups to visit the animals.  Each small group was assigned a zoo worker who discussed things they had been taught in the classroom.

Our first visit was to see the baby pandas who are now about 18 months old.  IMG_4649

From there we saw a number of other animals.  IMG_4666

I am so thankful for this day with Hannah as well as the opportunity to get to know her classmates a little better.
