How to Blog When You Cannot Blog?

I've received a few helpful comments warning me that blogger is not available in China. Oh no! :o)

That's ok though!! A long time ago my wonderful friend M3 and I devised a back-up plan for my time in China. I will email posts and pics to her and she'll make sure they're posted for you to follow along the amazing journey to Hannah!!!

I am so excited to share this time with you so as my sweet baby girl's schedule allows I'll post as often as possible for your sake....and mine. I have a feeling that time will fly all too quickly while in China and I want to preserve as many of the memories of our beginning days together as possible. This blog will be a wonderful place to do that and you're all invited along for the ride!!

30 days until Hannah day!!

Now, off to wake up my sweet niece and her best friend for our annual Apple Picking adventure. For 5 years now we've talked about the year when Hannah will join us and this year we're already celebrating and talking about how next year Hannah will be with us for sure to join in all the fun!!

  1. I too have already made that same plan. All of it kind of makes me nervous, because I want to share with everyone while we are over there.

Catherine you are entering your last 30 days of life as you know it. Your life is getting ready to change in ways that you cannot even imagine. And it is going to be an 18 or 19 year roller coaster of love like never before. And I am so blessed to be able to watch....I cant wait!!!

    Love, Kristy

  3. This all seems so surreal! Part of me just can't believe you're FINALLY going to China. I think we've all gotten so numb from the wait. LOL!

Very happy to hear you'll be blogging your trip. I can't wait to see that baby girl in your arms. :)

  4. That is so weird. It worked fine for us in all three locations. We even streamed US Christian radio stations while at two of the hotels! lol :) Can't wait to see you with your baby girl!!

  5. the only problem I had with blogger was that it wasn't always in english but I'd been using it long enough to know where I needed to click... then I realized there was a button I could click to convert it. Once I did that, I didn't have a bit of trouble. I like your back up plan though.. it's always good to have a back up plan!

  6. I hope to be able to follow your journey to motherhood in China, but the most important thing is that you will be getting Hannah. If we have to read about after the fact, so be it. I'm glad you have a back-up plan, though!

How is the painting and decorating of the nursery coming along?

Have you had any daydreams about hanything in particular that's important to you that you want to share with Hannah? I imagine that my time to play the piano will be after I tuck my daughter into bed and I imagine her listening to the music as she falls asleep. I also imagine taking my daughter to the beach for the first time during the day and her first time at night, too.

  7. I can't believe, less than a month you will be in China getting your baby girl! It is still SUCH a shock to me that she is so little. Thanks for thinking of us and updating in China :)

  9. i posted from China! in your "blogger" menu you can set up "email to blogger"- it's SO easy!! you just email to your blog, attach photos, and waala. the advantage to having M3 do it is that she can size the pics for you! email to blogger they will always post "small" (like mine did).

either way, good to know you are set. i will say that email from china was SLOW (at least from gmail)! and you don't need any adapters, each hotel had them- some were built in (plugs)!

  10. My worst trouble was with pics. They were large (about 2 MB each) and the Internet was timing out before I could attach them to the blog or to email to send to my inlaws (that was my backup plan). Also, the blogger interface was in Chinese, but like another commenter, I knew where to click! About the pics...all the PCs in the hotel business centers had Windows, so I would put the pics into Paint and then do a Save As as jpg, which puts them in a smaller jpeg size. Then I could attach them. Of course didn't think to rotate them - you can see from my blog (link to trip in left column) that I had trouble!!!!

  11. I was able to blog in China - although a couple of times it was in Chinese!!! I asked the lovely helpful ladies in the hotel business centre - who changed it so it was in english!!

BUT - is def. a good idea to have your backup plan and email pics & posts. I actually used a seperate adoption journey site, for our in China trip which was wonderful - coz all I had to do was email.

  12. We were able to easily log on to blogger in Changsha. We didn't go to Beijing so I don't know what you will find there. Guangzhou wasn't a problem for us either.
