Last week I hosted a piano recital for my students and it was wonderful! In the past I have always shared the recital with a great friend but unfortunately this year it didn’t work out. When I first found out I would be on my own I briefly considered cancelling it as I only have 5 students but just as quickly knew that they would shine and I wanted to offer them the opportunity to share their music with family and friends! I’m so glad I went forward with it!
Hannah was there to play for me and she was also a big help in preparing for the recital by helping Mom and I! Thanks Hannah!
She played Twinkle, Twinkle once again and then we played our duet. What a special moment it is to play piano with my girl!!

Two of my students are good friends of Hannah’s. It was fun to see the 3 of them running around together playing after the recital.
Kaitlyn has been my student for almost 10 years and her playing has progressed to a level where I have taken her as far as I can. In September she’ll be moving to Hannah’s Nana for lessons and I look forward to hearing how she progresses! It has been such a treat teaching you Kaitlyn!!

One of my co-workers is an amazing baker and she made these cookies for me. They tasted as great as they look!!
I created little covers for the water bottles and the kids thought it was neat to see their names on the bottles! It was a fun little surprise for them!
I am so thankful these girls and the pleasure of teaching them to play the piano. The one evening I teach each week Hannah enjoys time with Grandma and Grandpa. Another wonderful year of teaching and I’m looking forward to September as a whole new curriculum has been introduced!
Monday evening Hannah played in her second piano recital and she played so beautifully!!
She’s been playing for about a year and a half now and is doing great! We’ve incorporated practice into our normal morning routine which is a huge help. The consistency of daily practice makes such a difference in her playing!
She started the evening by playing, ‘Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star’ and it was ‘exquisite’ (using Nana’s term after she played.) Her crossover was beautiful. Unfortunately I missed the first bit on the recording as she was so excited to start Mommy just wasn’t ready.
After her first piece I joined her at the piano and we played a short duet together. I think Mommy was more nervous than Hannah was but I can’t tell you how amazing it was to be playing a duet with MY DAUGHTER!! We are so blessed to have one another and I am forever grateful to God for the gift of Hannah is my life! I’m one blessed and thankful mommy!!!
The evening ended with Sharon’s (aka Nana) nephew Chris playing a medley of songs from he had composed from the movie, ‘Frozen.’ Chris is an amazing pianist and composer and it was great to hear him play again! I often listen to his compositions that he has uploaded onto YouTube. I didn’t have my camera with me when he played but this is a version of the same that he previously recorded and uploaded to YouTube.
At the end of the evening, Hannah won an award for 10 weeks of practicing at least 5 days a week. My practice habits when I was learning to play were inconsistent and poor at best and I want to offer Hannah a better learning experience so I have made a 1800 turn when it comes to our practice habits.
We had a crazy busy weekend and since it was also an hour after her bedtime, my sweetie was sound asleep when she received her award. Awe!
It was a treat to listen to all of Sharon’s students play. What a beautiful evening it was!

I have been teaching piano for more than 15 years yet this year’s recital stands out. This year Hannah played in my recital and she played really well!
LOL – I will also say that I have a whole new appreciation for my parents and the team effort of student and parent that practice is. I’ve heard my fair share of ‘I’m too tired!’ and been faced with a Hannah flopped over the bench for additional effect just in case mommy needed more convincing. Oye! Most days she does okay and the drama is minimal and we can complete her practice in 15-20 mins. Other days…not so much!
All her (OUR) hard work since the fall when she began her lessons with Nana is evident and she is progressing well for being just 5yo. I want piano to be something enjoyable for both of us. Most days it is and other days welll…we won’t go there! Heh – I’m sure any parent who has spent time practicing an instrument alongside their child will understand completely!! There are times when I sit at her lesson and cheer inwardly (and sometimes even outwardly) when she masters something that she has worked hard on at home!! Piano is not an easy instrument and Hannah is working very hard! I love that I have the opportunity to offer this to Hannah and I hope in time she will appreciate it too.

Tonight was a big night for my little girl! She has worked really hard this fall learning the initial basics of playing the piano and tonight she shared her music at Nana’s piano recital for the very first time!

I have been so happy with Hannah and her desire to learn to play. She’s only had 5 or 6 lessons but tonight confidently got up and played her piece for all who were there. She is learning from the best piano teacher there is – her Nana! Sharon was my teacher too and she is an amazing pianist and teacher!
Each day she is happy to practice and it’s often Hannah that says, ‘Mommy, lets go practice piano!’ We’ve had to play around with the best time that works for us and it’s a toss-up between early morning and as soon as we get home from daycare. Depending on the day we switch between those 2 times and she does well.
We’ve had our moments of practice challenge 
Hannah you played so well and Mommy is so proud of you!! May you have many years of beautiful music ahead of you!
PS – I went down to change the laundry tonight and this is what I found. It looks like Bobble Chippey was encouraged to play after listening to Hannah tonight!
