Hannah and I had fun taking some pics after we finished trimming the tree.  There were so many I liked that I wanted to share a bunch.

Tree Trimming 2017

One of our favourite activities each year is trimming the Christmas tree and talking about all of our favourite ornaments and the stories that go with them!

This year was a little crazy at the beginning of December so tree trimming took place over 2 days about a week apart.

Night 1 was beads plus traditional Christmas balls.  Wonky strings of beads have become our new tradition and I love it!

The following week was our favourite part as we pulled out the decorations that Hannah has made over the years or those we’ve purchased to remind us of special people or occasions.

This year Hannah made me a beautiful love note of post-it notes that read, ‘Hannah, Love, Mommy! you love I’ (lol – It may be backwards but read right to left it reads, ‘I love you Mommy! Love, Hannah)

Trimming the Christmas Tree

Hannah and I love sharing time together decorating our Christmas tree.  There are no rules and I love how fun and unique it is each and every year!  Here is this year’s creation decorated while wearing her adorable new Christmas pyjamas!

Tree trimming is always better when done while enjoying ‘Christmas milk’.

Trimming the Christmas Tree 2015

Hannah and I always look forward to the day when we put up the Christmas tree!  This year was no different and it was a sweet time with my girl! 

First step was to string the beads.  Mommy started the boring way and then Hannah spiced it up!  Love her creativity – even if she does make me nervous as she climbs around!

Adding the angel to the top is always a fun if not silly moment with my overly ticklish little girl who giggles through the process every year.

Unfortunately the flash on my camera  is broken so some of the pics are a little dark but it kinda helps with the mood.  Sunday evening we took time to take a few more pictures.

Christmas Tree Trimming 2014

Tonight was one Hannah and I look forward to each year – time to trim the Christmas Tree.  We started with candy cane hot chocolate.  Yum!

This year Hannah took the lead and it was such fun to see how she organized the decorating.   First, she started with sorting the beads into colours and shapes which is what she’s doing at school too.  It was fun to see her transfer those skills here.

I love how over the years our tree is gathering more and more ornaments that Hannah has made for us and also ones that reflect her current interests.  Two new ones this year are a Sailing Mickey and Minnie that we purchased on our first Disney cruise in February

and then a Frozen ornament.  (Surprise, surprise!)

This is one Hannah made last week and I already know it’s a keeper!  LOL!!

Imperfection is Perfection! Our Christmas Tree!

For years my Christmas tree looked like this one.  The beads were strung carefully from branch to branch, bows and balls nicely spaced and all within the colour scheme.

Fast forward to 2013 and this is our tree this year.  And, it’s absolutely perfect and the one above pales in comparison for me!  I love it right down up to the crooked angel at the top!

We started with Hannah carefully draping weaving the beads while singing, ‘Jolly Old Saint Nicholas’

Once the beads were on Hannah donned her sparkle shoes in case of breakage.  We only lost 1 which was a much better record that in previous years!  I think it also helps that over the past 4 years I’ve also transitioned to many plastic ornaments.

The traditional final touch to our tree is the angel on top.  It took us about 10 mins with many stops for giggles but she finally got there!

Trimming the Tree with an Awesome 3yo!

Trimming the tree this year was SO much fun!  Hannah helped from start to finish and I love the end product!  I had years of each decoration being ‘just so’ and all the colours matching and now I love, love, love the fun decorations that represent Hannah, her first Christmas, her interests and especially the ones she has made over the years!!

We started with the beads and originally I thought I’d put them on and them ask her to help me with the rest but she quickly realized what I was doing and as she helped my smile got bigger and bigger as I saw her creative spirit come out.

I’ve purchased a few boxes of plastic ornaments over the years and in the past those were the ones she’d put on.  This year she was able to help with all.  My only request was that she put on some shoes just in case some fell.  Our motto, ‘Accidents happen.’   You’ll hear that phrase around our house on almost a daily basis.  Anyway, she chose her new sparkle shoes and I think they were the perfect choice for this festive occasion.

In the end only 1 ornament was broken and yes, Mommy did it!  I was kneeling down sweeping up the little pieces and my sweetie walked up behind me, gently began rubbing my back and said, ‘It’s okay Mama.  Accidents happen.’  Oy!  She melts me!!

This year Hannah was able to do so much more and she was so helpful!

Each year when we’re at Disney I try to find an ornament that represents her current Disney love.  Last year it was the entire Clubhouse gang

but this year Goofy is her favourite by far.

The final touch on the tree is always our angel.  This year was extra special as Hannah was finally able to place the angel on top of our tree.  There were a few attempts and lots of giggles
