Pumpkin Guts? No Way!

Hannah`s really adventurous so I was sure she`d enjoy digging deep into the pumpkin to pull out all the slimy, gooey pumpkin guts! 

Yah….not so much!  :o)

While she napped I`d prepped the pumpkin by cutting the top off and scooping the gook off the sides and bottom but leaving it in the pumpkin.   (Thankfully in the morning I’d taken a quick look at our pumpkin in the garage as I realized that it rotted and a quick trip back to the pumpkin farm was needed to buy a replacement.  Note to self:  Next year leave pumpkin outside as the garage isn’t cold enough.  Oops!)

When she woke I she was excited to see her pumpkin on the counter and quickly ran to get the little one she`d coloured at daycare last week.  I took the top off and asked if she wanted to pull out the guts?  She took one peek, and sniff and declared that pumpkin guts are yucky!  Heh….so much for Mom’s photo op she’d planned!

She didn’t mind me digging it out and eventually tried to hold a couple of pumpkin seeds but wasn’t really into the whole cleaning out the pumpkin thing.  That was ok.

She lost interest pretty quick which in reality worked okay as I needed to carve our image.  I’m sure Hannah’s choice will come as a surprise to none of you! 

I haven’t carved a pumpkin in a number of years but it went ok.  The pic above had lots of details that I ignored but the finished  product made Hannah happy and truly that’s all that matters!

(I was blessed to be chosen by Lisa as a winner of one of her great photography classes intended to help people with DSLR cameras get out of the Auto mode.  Umm…yah, that was me.  I’ve had the camera for 2 1/2 years and still took 95% of my pics in auto.  I’ve only had one class and am also trying out a new lens so please ignore some of the fuzzy pics.  I love the blurry background but I’m still working on how to keep the subject as crisp and clear as I want it.  I’ll get there.  Just more practice needed!)

A Moment in Time: Too Loud!!!

A few months ago I discovered the wonderful world of smoothies!  Since then I have enjoyed a smoothie almost every morning for breakfast.

Hannah and I have our morning routine down pat.  Wake up, get ready, she eats breakfast while I make my lunch and then as we’re getting ready to go to the car I put a smoothie together.  There are some days when she eats part of her yogurt and they she asks me to put the rest in the smoothie.  Too cute! 

Once all the ingredients together I’ll call out, ‘Are you ready?’ And she quickly covers her ears as I turn on the blender and calls out, ‘TOO LOUD!!!’

Once she’s safely buckled into her car seat and we’re ready to go I bring out the completed smoothie and the cutest little taste tester in the world gives me her opinion on that’s days creation.

I love this cute little morning tradition that we share together each day!

Wrapping Up the Long Weekend

We spent a great weekend together with friends and I’m working on a post about that but for now I’ll share some of the fun Hannah and I enjoyed together after getting home yesterday afternoon. 

After supper we went over to visit with Nana and Papa after missing our weekly Sunday lunch.  Hannah loves spending time with her grandparents  and it’s just not the same when we have to go extra long without a visit so went over to their place last night.

Papa took Hannah for a walk. I love seeing them hanging out and Hannah has such fun with him.  There are so many games that just the two of them share together and it’s precious to stand back and watch love in action.

This shows why Papa often needs a nap after Hannah visits!

When it began to cool off we went inside where Nana shared a story with Hannah.

This picture amazes me!  Hannah and I have coloured together for a number of months but I’ve never talked about colouring in the lines.  It’s something an adult naturally does but I love how children colour with abandon so I’ve never shown her that there is an option to colour within the lines.  That being said, this picture blows me away as it shows how much she silently watches what is happening around her, soaks it in and does her best to imitate it.  I often have to remind myself that she’s only 26 months old!  Wow!!

On a side note about colouring.  We had to have a little chat last week as she created for me her first un-solicited work of art on our bathroom door.  Oops!

When we left Nana and Papa’s last night I decided we’d end our fun weekend off with a special treat: ice cream and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse!

Hannah and I shared the very best weekend together!  A wonderful combination of time for just the two of us together and then other times surrounded by the love of family and friends!  Ah, now that’s the way to celebrate a long weekend! 

We’re Ice Cream Lovin’ Gals!

I’ve always been an ice cream fan and Hannah learned early on that it’s a fun treat.  Sunday evening she and I met Grandma for dessert. 

When I picked Hannah up at daycare today Ange mentioned that Baskin Robbins was having a special fund raiser and a single cup of ice cream was only 31 cents!  Now that’s something that’s got my name written all over it!

On our way home from swimming lessons I swung by BR to see how long the line-up was and it wasn’t bad at all so we turned in.  What a fun surprise it was to see Ange and her family there.  Hannah didn’t see them until we walked up to the fire truck that was there for the kids to check out.  The fund raiser was to support families of fallen fire fighters.

Hannah and Caesar Salad – A Love/Hate Affair

Hannah and I both enjoy Caesar salad.  I normally purchase a packaged salad at the grocery store and Hannah helps me put the finishing touches on it.  (Listen to her talk!!  Wow!!!)

I enjoy the entire salad but Hannah, not so much.  She enjoys the cheese, dressing, bacon and croutons.  The lettuce?  Nope!  I’m impressed that she tries to eat the lettuce almost every single time we have salad but for some reason the texture just doesn’t work for her.  Regardless of the size we cut it, my little sweetie gags on it.  She tries, really she does but it’s just not working for her yet.

So for now her lettuce ends up a myriad of different places.  She licks off the dressing and other goodies but discards the lettuce.  Some meals it’s placed back on her plate.  Other times I find it in a little circle on the high chair tray surrounding her plate.

But last night?  Last night she just made me giggle as this is where her lettuce ended up!

Each piece of lettuce was piled neatly on top of her sippy cup of water.  And yes, when she was thirsty she’d drink from the cup without giving a thought to the lettuce perched atop it!
