First Walking Shoes!

Today was a big day for us as Hannah and I went to a specialty children's shoe store and bought Hannah her first 'official' pair of walking shoes. She has worn little dressy shoes occasionally but now that she's starting to take steps on a daily basis it suddenly became very important to me that I purchase her a really good pair of first shoes.

We went to a Kiddie Kobbler store which is the same kind of store that my parents took me to back in the past century :o) when they bought my first pair of shoes! The lady there was great with us. She took time with us, measured Hannah's foot and then asked me what type of shoe I was looking for. These adorable little shoes were more costly than I've paid for a pair of shoes for myself in years but they're worth every penny. I want to do all I can to get Hannah the support that she will need as she's walking and help her strengthen her little walking muscles.

These adorable little Stride Rite shoes will hopefully fit her for a few months and get her walking off on the right foot....literally!

Hannah started taking little steps last Thursday and still takes some each day but mommy is still attempting to catch them on a video. She still prefers to hop and crawl so by the time I grab the video camera she's normally off on a new adventure and not willing to reenact her walking.

Here was an attempt with my dad last Friday but you can see she was too excited to walk at the time and felt lunging at the person was more her style! Just moments before she'd walked a couple of steps from dad to myself and back again but by the time we got the camera out excitement had taken over!

We're big fans of Pe.di Peds... Our eldest used them until he could no longer fit in their sizes!

  10. she is such an adorable character...loved sitting behind you guys at church the other week. God has truly blessed you with such a sweetheart! She was worth the wait wasn't she! Your life will be far from boring together!!:):) Hey I didn't know Kiddie Kobbler was still around. We always went to the one in the Oshawa Centre when I was a kid! I LOVED that store. It's hard to find a good shoe store with knowledgeable shoe sales people these days! Awesome shoes!

  11. When your post started, I thought, "We went to the Stride Rite store decades ago." Wow! Was I surprised to read that you bought Hannah Stride Rite shoes. Of course, they've become much more stylin'. The ones we got were the white high tops, like the ones your mom bought you I'll bet.

  14. Aww darling!! I worked for Stride Rite for about 2 years. Its great you bought her supportive shoes!! Don't be surprised if she outgrows them a little more quickly than you think! When children first start walking, their foot/muscles stretch and grow rather quickly. She could grow 1/2 a size in just a few weeks. It's important to keep her in good.supportive shoes for the first two years. Luckily you can find new Stride Rite on ebay! =) Congrats again!!

  15. Shoes are so important for our little ones, aren't they? I never thought I would also be buying expensive baby shoes because I thought kids outgrow them fast so why bother? But then, Tommy came along and changed all that.

We don't have the same store/brand you have there but Florsheim for Kids is a pretty good option. Tommy wore his first pair out in two months. It's a good thing he has a cousin who is only four months older, Tommy received lots of hand me down shoes so. Serves us well because, well, I'm cheap. Heh. :D

Catherine, I can't get enough of this video! She is so darn cute! Also, see how she excitedly jumps up and down at the sight of you? Commenter above is right, Hannah lights up at the sight of your face! :) You are so blessed!

  19. And it will just keep getting even more wonderful for both of you, especially with the deepened communication that spoken language on both sides will bring. Oh,joy!

  20. Of course she needs shoes, but I am a little confused by some of these comments. We spoke with a pediatric podiatrist and he said to try and keep the boys in Robeez-type shoes or barefoot as much and as long as possible. "Supportive" shoes are no longer recommended for little ones.

Perhaps we need a second opinion...
