Hannah and mosquitos do not get along!
My poor little love! We were up north for the weekend and we didn’t see any mosquitos until about an hour before we left to come home and then suddenly they were out in droves. Yuck! One little guy thought Hannah would make a tasty lunch and even though I swatted him away mid-bite the damage had been done. Even with Benadryl lotion on within minutes and liquid Benadryl today, my little cutie still looks like this.
She reacts so severely to mosquito bites and normally they blister. From the looks of it that’s probably the next step for this one. I’ve enquired about it and what’s been explained is that Hannah was born with immunities to Chinese bugs but not those here in Canada. Hopefully in time as she (unfortunately) grows more accustomed to Canadian mosquitos she will stop reacting like this.
Thankfully it doesn’t seem itchy and isn’t bothering her at all. For that I’m thankful!
Yeouch!! Bummer! I have the same reaction to mosquito bites. And they seem to like me better than anyone else.
ReplyDeletePoor Hannah! Both my girls react horribly to mosquito bites! Big, red welts :-(
ReplyDeletePoor Hannah!!!! We ordered some bug bands last summer since for us there is the added danger of dengue fever (oh the joys of living in the tropics!). They are chemical free and worked well with the kids. Hope she's doing better today!
ReplyDeleteLily too and I don't like to tell you this but Lily turns 10 in a couple of weeks and she still reacts like that so that immunity line might not be quite right. Plus I think M3 is nearly 21 LOL and she still reacts bad!
ReplyDeletePoor baby girl I hope it goes away quick.
LOL! M3 is almost 21? Oye! She doesn't look a day over 20!! :o)
DeleteHmmm...by the sounds of things my 'she'll get immune to them' theory might not be right. Too bad!!
Our son reacted bad to them while we were in Zhengzhou. Everyone in our group was covered in red welts. Our guide sold us small bottles of green liquid called Essential Oil. I believe the main ingredient is Eucalyptus oil. We have been told by our Chinese friends that Tiger Balm has the same ingredients. So if you can get access to Tiger balm from an Asian store, dab some on her each time she goes out. It also makes the swelling go down. I can put some of that essential oil on my son's bumps and they go down faster than with anything else on it.
ReplyDeleteKim O
Oh no, poor Hannah! At least it's not bothering her and she's still smiling.
ReplyDeletecatherine...my girls had/have the SAME exact issues!! these BAD reactions to mosquitoes continued until about age 5 or 6. they STILL get mosquito bites now at age 7, but they do not swell and blister like they used to. AND they don't get nearly as many. i remember one time when they were 2, they each had about 30 bites and had only been outside for 10-15 minutes. so, you will probably always need to keep some insect repellant, but i think her reactions will lessen over time.
ReplyDeleteYep - I've seen that before! Samara has the same reaction. Poor thing! Last summer wasn't as bad so here's hoping she's getting over it and Hannah will too.

Poor little Hannah...hope that it settles down quickly.
ReplyDeleteBless her little heart!
ReplyDeletePoor little munchkin....love her smile though, she is adorable.
ReplyDeletePoor thing! Naomi also swells up with mosquito bites - gotta love Benadryl!
ReplyDeletePoor sweetie! Briana swells up so badly too when she gets bitten by a mosquito. She doesn't blister, but she swells two to three sizes bigger in the bitten area than she should when it happens.
ReplyDeleteMy friend is Chinese but she was born in Canada. She is turning 38 this year and still has that same reaction. Sorry!
ReplyDeleteI didn't have this issue when I was younger, but do now :( It stinks!
ReplyDeletePoor little girl, she totally has my sympathy!!!
