If you had ever asked me if a 22 month old could ‘skate’ I probably would have laughed at you. 22 months? Are you kidding?
Well, my thoughts about that all changed on Saturday. Our friends Liz and Ava have a skating rink in their back yard and they invited Hannah and I over to skate. The weather was amazing as it wasn’t too cold and it was snowing the huge, fluffy snowflakes that accumulated faster than Liz could clear the ice. In the brief 15 mins we were on the rink, Liz shovelled no less than 3 times!! BEAUTIFUL!!!
I wasn’t sure if Hannah would like skating so I took a pic inside just to ensure I ended up with at least 1 pic of her with her little skates on. Someday when she’s in the Olympics we’ll want this pic.
When we went out and I placed her on the ice she surprised me by thoroughly enjoying herself. (I’m not a fan of skating so am thankful we had an opportunity to go out.)
Even when she fell she had a smile on her sweet little face!
One of Hannah’s first attempts to skate on her own.
Check out the beautiful snow falling!! I love, love, love this kind of light, fluffy snow!
Hannah’s own style of getting around the ice and then voila – up she goes all on her own!
It was a fun afternoon with our friends. Next week we’re going out for a CNY dinner together which promises to be another great time.
I love how Hannah is broadening my experiences and also teaching me that I was waaaay off in what I believed toddlers could do. I’ve never given them the credit they’re due. She’s a smart cookie and will keep Mommy on her toes for years to come!!
Looks like Hannah had a great time!
ReplyDeleteI think i've commented once or twice before, but I just have to comment since I'm a skater, although an inline speed skater :)
Kids can do amazing things! Check out this little 3 yr old on inline speed skates! soooo cute and fasssst!

Awesome! I took our youngest daughter to skating lessons for a long time. The first lesson is all about falling and getting back up again-seriously, they have to practice falling. So she's already mastered lesson #1.

Okay, that has to be the most adorable thing I've ever seen!! I agree with you that I never dreamed how capable toddlers are! They amaze me every single day.
ReplyDeleteHow cute are Liz and Ava? Glad you had the chance to spend some time with them. Lucky girls!
I'm not surprised. I thought it was mandatory for Canadians to have ice-skated in a backyard pond before they reach 7 yrs old.
ReplyDeleteJust awesome!
ReplyDeleteShe does well getting around and shoot, who knew that they even made skates that small, very cute.
ReplyDeleteThat is so awesome! How fun and brave is she?! I want an ice rink like that in my yard.
ReplyDeleteShe's a thousand times better than me! You rock Hannah!!! :)
ReplyDeleteMy girls ice skate and the youngest was around 2 when she started. I wouldn't have thought of it, but my eldest was skating quite a lot at that point, so since we were there anyway we let her try.
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of a backyard rink before, that's very cool. (or should that be cold!)
I had to get out of that whole "if I couldn't do it, of course she can't do it" mentality. I was never an athlete, gymnast or had the confidence to dance or cheerlead. My daughter plays softball, has her black belt, is working on her back handspring, cheers & dances. She amazes me on a daily basis. :-)
ReplyDeleteGood Gracious!!! Hannah's a NATURAL!!
ReplyDeleteShe is so cute. I can't believe she grabbed that cold bar with her bare hands. It seems the mittens were slowing her down.
When Hannah and Ava are in the Olympics Z and I will be there to cheer them on!! :o)
Too fun!! I LOVE skating - can't wait to take my little one!
ReplyDeleteWhat a delight!
