We've Only Just Begun.....

Finally, the day arrived. I had avoided it as long as I could. I woke up knowing that yesterday was Day 1. I was overwhelmed. I was scared. I wanted to pull the covers over my head and just wish that it would go away. I wanted to twitch my nose like Samantha on Bewitched but knew that finally I must gather all my courage together and face what I had created. What was this daunting task you ask?

Tidying what is to become Hannah's nursery!!! I'm guessing one glance at this picture helps you understand why I was completely overwhelmed!! I didn't know where to begin but I also have some amazing friends!!

My friend Joy had offered numerous times to come and help me and finally last week I swallowed my pride and decided to take her up on her generous offer. When I emailed her to ask if she'd come over one evening to help out she couldn't say 'yes' fast enough and even offered more than one evening!

Last night at 6:00 we began the daunting task and before 9:00 had made a big dent in tidying Hannah's room. This is a pic of Joy and some of what we moved out of the room. With the exception of the collection that Joy is standing by, the rest was gone before she left. Some was garbage, some stored in the basement and the stuff near her will be donated to a local thrift store that my parent's volunteer at called, 'Bibles for Missions.'

Can you believe she was willing to come again tonight for a second round? Wow! Thank you Joy!! We tidied the closet in the guest room as well as the one in Hannah's room. Check it out....there's carpeting in there rather than stuff, stuff and more stuff!!

There is still much to do but with the help of Joy I'm well on the way! M and M are coming over on the weekend and have offered to paint so my goal is to have as much of this cleaned out as possible before they arrive. It's going to be busy but I can do it. The bigger items I'll enlist the help of M and we'll carry them downstairs together.

Have I mentioned lately that I have THE BEST friends?!!! Truly, their help is appreciated more than they'll ever know and they take daunting tasks and make them not only doable but fun too!

This picture made me laugh. During the wait for Hannah's referral, when I needed a pick-me-up I'd sometimes purchase diapers and guess I might have bought more than I'd realized. I should be set for a few weeks right? :o)

As I was preparing this post I also thought of this:

Note to self: Don't show Hannah the 'Before' picture of her room or I'll never convince her as a teen to keep her room tidy!!!

  1. Aren't great friends the BEST! Thanks for posting these pictures. It's very exciting to watch you getting ready to bring your daughter home. Every lick of paint, every picture you hang and every piece of furniture you put in Hannah's room will bring Hannah closer and closer and fill your home with love and when she finally comes home, she'll be surrounded by it.

  2. HOLY diapers woman!!!! lol Yep...you're set for awhile!!!! lol ;o)

I'm so excited for you!!! You will LOVE having Hannah's nursery all ready to go1!!

  3. Holy Moly, Mama! You have a ton of work to do but it looks like you are off to a great start. Can't wait to see it painted and Hannah's furniture in place and the bedding you choose, etc. What an exciting time for you!

  4. I MADE THE BLOG!!! I MADE THE BLOG!!! Doing the happy dance! LOL!!!

Cathy, it was so much fun to spend the last two evenings with you...and any other night you need help...I'm your gal. It didn't seem like work at all, 'cause we were too busy laughing, talking, and chasing bugs! (Noticed you didn't mention that little visitor!! YIKES!)

Looking forward to our next time together. Love ya,

  5. Can't wait to see the after pics! After our nursery was done and before the kids cane home I used to sit in there every night and dream.....dreams do come true!

  6. Yikes . . . that is scary! Thank goodness for great friends. Can't wait to see the after pictures - and especially the ones with Hannah in that room!

P.S. Those diapers should last a few days at least . . .

  7. You have accomplished so much! It feels great doesn't it?! Wait till you paint!!!!!! AHHHHH!!!! Enjoy!!!!!! I am sure with such wonderful friends around you, it would be impossible not to! Have fun!

  8. At least now you have an inspiring face to tidy up for. Keep at it and in no time, it will come together.

  9. Rock on! Gonna look great!

    Keep smilin!

  10. I love that you hadnt painted the room yet. I think I would have been the same, like it was tempting fate to do it before that picture was in my hand!

What colour will you do the room??? I can't wait to see how beautiful and girlie and probably disney it will be!! hehe!!

Oh my goodness... so many nappies! (sorry diapers..I am british!!) I do wonder how long they will last... an interesting blog in some months time just there!!

sooooo thrilled for you! You absolutely deserve it! Seen you on another blog with Ro and Ree and they clearly love you! Funny how the net makes you feel like you would be good friends with people even though you're never met or spoke.

    Just so thrilled for you

  11. Hmmm...I know someone else who could have helped you get organized and I seem to recall that person offering many times..... :P

  12. So nice to have friends who are willing and able to help with the no-fun big tasks. Can't wait to see the finished room.

  13. I am digging my painting clothes out as we speak!!

We will be there bright and early with bells on!!

  14. Oh my! But rest assured that it is doable! We finally have Molly's room painted and just about ready!

Thank you..I am going to use that one..
    love ya..

  16. Holy dooly! That's a lot of diapers! :) I guess people say the same thing when they see the amount of 2 year old dresses I bought Lilah during our wait! :) I didn't buy diapers, but I did buy dresses! Lol!

Just wait, when you get this nursery finished, it'll feel oh so much MORE real! :)

Congrats on taking that first step and for wonderful friends!

    Jill xx

  17. I can't wait to see the completed room. That sure it a lot of stuff to deal with but sometimes it takes a deadline to force us into action.

  18. Yipppppiiiiieee! Pure excitement here! I can not wait to see the cutest little girl in her room playing and having fun! You are definitely set with the diapers, but you know what...you'll be happy you did that! Trust me!

  19. Can't wait to see how the room shapes up.

    Happy nesting!

    Kind regards from Miami,
