First Manicure and Pedicure

Hannah was super excited when I picked her up at Ange’s Wednesday afternoon and took her to the place where Mommy gets her nails done.  She was jumping with joy and squealing in her car seat when I told her that it wasn’t me we were going for but for her!   She’s accompanied me a few times over the years but the extent of her visit was normally playing in the water while mommy got her nails done.

This time it was all about Hannah!  She had a gentleman do her nails and he was sweet with her and took such care.IMG_1705

Since it was preschool graduation that night I was really glad she chose this soft, sparkly pink colour.  I had pictured bright red or blue or something.  Yikes!IMG_1709

If you know my Hannah you know that she’s an active little girl.  As her nails were done she couldn’t have sat more still.  I was so proud of her and she was so careful let them dry before touching them.IMG_1706LOL!  Her little toes needed a bath first since she often chooses to bring 1/2 of Ange’s sandbox home in her shoes!IMG_1708

My little girl has crazy ticklish feet which made getting her toes done a little challenging but she did great!

Enjoying the funny chair while waiting to dry.

A special treat for a very special little girl!  Mommy’s treat was the $5 price tag even after her took 20 mins to pamper my girl!  Guess who’s going to be joining Mommy for her next pedicure? Smile

Sometimes There’s No Question That I Got My Money’s Worth

I bought this cute little Carter’s dress for Hannah when she was 2 years old.  She’s now in year 3 of wearing it and going strong.

It gets shorter on her each year but still fits well.  Wonder if we’ll see it in 2014? Smile

Final Day of Preschool

All too quickly Hannah’s year at preschool has drawn to a close.  *sigh!*

She started as a little girl who knew how to sing her A, B, C’s ~ kinda.  What child really knows how to sing the ‘elemeno’ part?  She could only print a few letters and those were all upper case.  She did not know any lower case letters nor could she print any of her numbers.  She now recognizes all of her letters (upper and lower case) and can write almost all of them from memory.

IMG_1693One funny thing though is that she still does not write her name correctly consistently.  It’s not unusual for her N’s to be backwards and the final H is often left off, or mixed up with extra A’s.   And, when she says her letters out loud when writing her name she calls the H and the A both ‘A’.   Heh…precious memories to capture!

Hannah can count to 29 but then says 20-10 and 20-‘eleben’.  Hee!  I change it up to 30 and she’s off…until she gets to 30-10 and 30-eleben!

There was one thing that surprised (and if I were honest, saddened) me that I noticed at preschool.   She was normally one of the last kids dropped off each day.  There were 16 kiddos in her class so when we arrived many of the activity stations would already have children at them.  For the first number of months (probably until sometime in late April or early May) I would watch her glance around the room and then purposely choose a station where nobody else was.  That surprised me as she is a social little girl with many friends.  As she walked into the class it was not unusual for 2 or 3 of her classmates to run up and say ‘Hi Hannah.’  She’d sometimes respond (something else we’re working on) but then find a place to play alone.  It was hard to watch.

I distinctly remember the day I dropped her off and she ran into a tent where a few other kids were playing.  I was shocked and it immediately warmed my heart!   I mentioned it to her teachers who were standing nearby and they both said they’d noticed her interacting with her classmates a lot more lately.  I was so thankful!  I noticed the same thing a couple of weeks ago at family day and have also noticed it when I drop her off at Sunday School.  I’m so glad she is feeling more comfortable playing with her peers.  Another way that preschool was a wonderful opportunity for her.

Before school this morning we took a few photos (surprise, surprise!) of her holding a picture taken last September on her first day of school.IMG_1645

My baby is growing up!

Final drop off and yes, Hannah was fine and Mommy was a MESS!IMG_1672

I have dreamed of Hannah attending this preschool at our church since before she was born.  It’s hard to believe this wonderful time has come and gone.  She learned so much but even more her amazing teachers helped her fall deeper in love with Jesus!  They gave her a wonderful first experience at school and taught her so, so much!  Thank you Mrs. Devitt IMG_1674

and Mrs. Hebert! IMG_1675 We cannot express our gratitude to you!

I was able to slip away from work in the morning and surprise Hannah at pick up time.  I love her reaction!!!

Hannah!  Mommy is so proud of you!  You have flourished at preschool and learned so much.  Your education has just begun but it’s begun in such a wonderful way!

Tomorrow night is your graduation and sweetie I just need to warn you  - Mommy will try to keep it together but I’m not making any promises!  Winking smile

10 Drowsy Dinosaurs

Hannah amazes me!  Truly she does!!

I’m the first to admit that memory is something I have always struggled with.  Names escape me even when I’ve known someone for a long time.  Memorizing stuff for school, piano pieces or Bible verses was something that took A LOT of work and even then I did poorly.  The one exception for me was numbers but I must say that with speed dial and computers that remember numbers even those fail me often.  Sad smile  Watching many movies is disappointing as I can’t keep the characters straight and get them all mixed up.  Reading a mystery isn’t worth the time as the big reveal leaves me empty as I often can’t remember how the character fit into the plot.  Does anyone else struggle with this?

I’ve learned at work to write ‘to do’ lists and detailed procedures for myself so that I can recall in the future what a task involves.  The project I’m currently working on has me completing a task and then sometimes not doing that same task for months and months so the procedures are helpful in remembering the details and steps required to accomplish what is asked of me.

Hannah, is the polar opposite to me and for that I am SO thankful!!  Her memory is amazing and is a gift that I pray she will always have and use.  Even though she is only 4 I have learned that if she says, ‘Mommy, Remember when….’ I don’t doubt her.  As she provides me with more details I can in fact remember what it is she’s speaking of and her details are normally spot on.

The book ‘10 Drowsy Dinosaurs’ (aka 10 Sleepy Dinosaurs) is one we received in her Junior Kindergarten orientation kit.  We’ve probably read it about half a dozen times since she received it.  Included in the kit were pages designed to be coloured and turned into puppets on popsicle sticks.  Hannah enjoyed this little project even though she got a little impatient at times and coloured like a maniac.  Winking smile

Once her puppets were all ready it was time for her show!  She created a little puppet stage using a foot stool and little chair.  This was the first time we ran read the book and she presented her little show and I think she did really well!  She thought it out first and got them in the order that they would be displayed.  Enjoy my little sweetie and her telling of, ‘10 Drowsy Dinosaurs’.

Great job Hannah XiaoFen!  I can’t wait for you to perform your puppet show for Mommy again!IMG_1506

Preschool Pic

Love her 4yo smile where she’s making sure her dimple shows!

I can’t believe Hannah only has 1 more day of preschool left.  How can that be???  I dreamed for years of sending her to this school and now in the blink of an eye she’s been to orientation, her first day of school and now, the end of her school year is only days away.  Sad smile

*sigh*  Slow down time….SLOW DOWN!!!Joy Preschool pic - Copy
