Disney Jan 2018 ~ Epcot Day 2, Part 2

The Epcot International Festival of the Arts was happening during our visit and oh did we enjoy it!  Rather than have lunch we snacked our way around the World Showcase while participating in many of the hands on activities that were offered.
There were many chalk drawings done by professionals
IMG_0970
as well as the opportunity for children to create their own masterpieces.  Hannah was recreated her Pluto Tsum Tsum.  You can see her reference piece in the second pic.  I think she did great!!

As we entered the World Showcase Hannah spotted the first treat she wanted to try.   (We had been watching videos ~ Disney Parks ~ online before our trip so had some ideas of what we wanted to try.)  I will say this was something she basically played with rather than ate but that’s okay with me.  Another bonus to having the dining plan is that I’m not thinking, ‘Agh!  I just paid $$ and she’s not eating it.’  Instead I look at it as something she’s enjoying and that’s all that matters.

One of the other activities we both really enjoyed was the opportunity to participate in a large paint by number mural.  It takes about 2 days and hundreds of guests to fully paint the mural and then a new one would take it’s place.  Each person chose a paint number that was in a little clear cup, took a sponge brush and then could paint 5 squares what matched the number of their paint.   We love these neat extras that are found at Disney.  Each trip it’s something new!

The finished product.  This is what our mural would look like once it was finished.

As we ventured around the world we picked up a map of famous paintings and went on a scavenger hunt  There was one hidden in each country and figment was featured in each of these famous paintings.  We spent hours enjoying this activity as we toured the countries and I can’t believe I didn’t take a single picture of Hannah!  Guess we were both having too much fun searching for them!  It was great way to spend time in Epcot and in the end Hannah earned a special new pin for her Disney collection.  Here are examples of a couple of the pictures:

I will say when we go to Disney we go hard, averaging between 22,000 and 25,000 steps a day.  We both enjoy our Disney time and most mornings we were up bright and early.  That being the case, it’s no surprise that Hannah took the opportunity of a quiet, scenic movie in France to catch a little cat nap.  This was her first trip that we didn’t use a stroller and she totally rocked it!  Our stroller days are officially behind us as the last time we used one was when she was 7.  So when you’re walking miles and miles each day a good ‘ole nap is called for here and there.

And there’s no better way to wake up than with a little French patisserie.
IMG_0991
LOL – while we were in line for the pastry Hannah and I both got an awful case of the giggles as we listened to a sweet lady in the line near us.  Even though I don’t speak much French, Hannah is fully bilingual as she is in French Immersion at school.  As we were in line this lady decided to read out the names of some of the pastries to her friend.  If you can hear a strong southern accent reading out French pastries you’ll understand our giggles!  ‘Creaaam Brulaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay’, ‘Cherries Jubilaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!’  Yup – it was tough to stifle the giggles!
One of the snacks that was new on my list was shaved ice with fruit and  cream topping in Japan.  We had something similar in Utah a number of years ago and it’s one of those snacks I’ve thought of ever since.  I’m a cold snack kinda gal.  Add a sugary topping + cream and I’m in my glory!  Hannah posed with our cherry shaved ice treat!  It was delicious and didn’t even spoil our dinner!  We’ll get this again for sure!

Speaking of dinner, today’s reservation was at Teppan Edo in the Japan Pavilion.  At this hibachi style restaurant you sit in groups of 8 around a grill.  We met the sweetest couple from California who were leaving the following day on a Disney Cruise.  (I may or may not have asked if they could squeeze us into their suitcases!!)  It was nice to visit with them while experiencing this show and meal all at once.
Want to hear a quick funny story?  This couple and I got talking about our week and what we had done. (And no, I can’t remember their names which is oh so normal for me.  I am awful with names!!)  We realized we’d both been in Animal Kingdom on Wednesday and lined up with the birds to ride Flight of Passage.  I asked where they’d been in the line for the hour that we were waiting on the bridge and they shared they were only about 6 rows from the front of the pack.  I pulled out my camera and sure enough his head was in my picture!  Small world!!  (Oh wait, that’s another park…. Open-mouthed smile)IMG_0873b
Back to Friday night and our delicious dinner at Teppan Edo.  Our hibachi chef.

Once again Hannah was serenaded with a version of Happy Birthday and they gave her a chef’s hat too.

We finished up our Figment painting hunt as we made our way back to Future World.  I realized we could probably get to Soarin’ before closing so we quickly made our way there and arrived just in time!  (At Disney, as long as you are in line before park closing, you will be able to ride the ride.)  We got in line seconds before 9:00 so we were on the very last ride of the evening.  It was a neat experience to enjoy this ride with only a handful of people!

Sadly the next day was going to be the last day of our trip but we were going to live it to it’s fullest!  Hannah is very much about tradition so we were going back to Magic Kingdom.  Our tradition is to start and finish each trip in the MK so even though it was supposed to be crowded we were going and going to make the most of it! Smile

Disney Jan 2018 ~ Epcot Day 2, Part 1

IMG_0953
As was the trend for this trip Hannah and I were up bright and early on this day and headed directly to Epcot.
Scanning her MagicBand on her way into the park.
IMG_0954
Since this was our second day at Epcot we took a few minutes to take some pics on our way into the park.

Since we hadn’t had breakfast yet we stopped at Starbucks and used a couple of our snack credits for breakfast.
IMG_0958
Starbucks is one of the special treats we enjoy at Disney that isn’t normally part of our daily lives.  So enjoy the Disney Dining Plan! Even though I had to pay for the dining plan after loosing our Free Dining trip to Irma in September, it was well worth the cost.  We live our lives on a budget so it’s a treat for both of us to be able to order whatever we want for an entire week and not have to think of it!!
IMG_0961-1
We also did a little shopping for a friend at home.
IMG_0966
By now our FP+ reservation for Test Track was up so we rode it plus Mission Space Green and a number of other rides too.

Disney Jan 2018 ~ Day 2, Epcot

Hannah and I started our day with breakfast at the resort and then made our way to Epcot.  The weather was still a bit dreary but this time we were better prepared.  Hannah is dressed for the weather while checking out our new ‘Hidden Mickey’ book.
IMG_0767-3
Thankfully by the time we were riding Test Track, our first ride of the day. the sun was out and stayed out for the rest of the day.  Yay!
IMG_0769-1
Hannah and her creation.  She always creates such neat cars!
IMG_5904
By the time we finished this ride I realized Hannah’s shoes were not going to make it though the day as her feet were cramping.  Normally we visit Disney in the fall meaning her feet have been wearing Crocs on and off all summer.  With it being January she’s been wearing running shoes with good support and her feet were not liking the jump back into Crocks.  Knowing Disney stores carry a lot of variety i was pretty sure we’d be able to find a new pair of shoes for her.  Oh baby….did we ever!  One look at these adorable shoes and we were both sold!!   Buh bye Crocks, Hello bling!!!

We enjoyed a great day at Epcot hanging out in Future World at first and then moving to the World Showcase in the afternoon.
A highlight of our day was Hannah meeting Mulan.  She wore her costume and it was sweet to watch Mulan slow down and spend some special time with Hannah.  They were probably together for almost 5 minutes and Hannah was in her glory.

Precious!
IMG_5913
We made our way through the World Showcase, exited at the International Gateway and took a boat over to the Beach Club for supper at Cape May Cafe.   They have a seafood buffet at supper which mommy really likes and Hannah can find plenty to eat plus she enjoys opening crab for mommy.  It’s a win-win I think!
IMG_0784
Opening crab was a tiring job though so Hannah decided to nap a little bit while I waited for the bill.  Love how she can sleep wherever she is!
IMG_0785
We decided to make it an earlier night and save ourselves some steps.  Rather than go back to Epcot and walk to the front of park for a bus, we took a friendship boat to Hollywood Studios and took a bus back to Pop Century from there.

Another amazing day with my girl was in the books.
Tomorrow…Magic Kingdom Day 2!

Disney 2016, Day 3–Epcot

(Mon, Sep 12, 2016)

We woke ready for another exciting day!  The sun was shining and my little (hiding) princess and I hit the road.  (The picture is a bit fuzzy as it was so humid out that the camera lens immediately fogged up the moment we left the room!  I’d wipe the lens and as fast as I could click the shutter button it had started to fog up again!)IMG_2168

We love the bright cheeriness of Pop Century!  This was our first visit since the children’s splash poolIMG_2167

and bigger pools had been fenced.  The fences were themed beautifully and didn’t alter our view, just our opportunities to swim as now once the lifeguards go off duty the gates are locked and swimming is not allowed.  Sadly this meant we only swam at our resort once the entire trip. Sad smileIMG_2169

On our way to the bus Hannah recreated this pic for me.  IMG_2170

Our day at Epcot!IMG_2221

After riding Soarin’ twice (still a GREAT ride and was a walk-on both times for us!) we made our way to Akershus in Norway for breakfast with the princesses.  Belle was at the Magic Kingdom telling stories so Princess Aurora was greeting guests on her behalf.IMG_2174

IMG_2176

Hannah and I were both really excited to see that Mulan had taken time out of her busy schedule to attend breakfast!  It’s rare that she’s here so we were so glad to see her!  She is our favourite princess!!  (Wonder why??)Hannah was sporting her warrior face for this picture. SmileIMG_2178

Other princesses in attendance were Ariel,IMG_2183

Cinderella  (love Hannah’s sweet, peaceful face in this pic!)IMG_2188

and Snow White.IMG_2190

On our way to Test Track Hannah took the opportunity to cool off in one of the cooling locations found around the parks.  IMG_2194

Test Track is Hannah’s favourite ride!  Can you tell? Winking smileIMG_2200

IMG_2202

Mickey and friends had moved over to Epcot with us so we took the opportunity to drop in and say hi!IMG_2207

IMG_2211

IMG_2217

We rode the new Frozen ride and loved it!  After that the lines were short so we popped in for a visit with AnnaIMG_2230

and ElsaIMG_2233

One of the changes this trip was the introduction of insect repellant stations due to Zika Virus.  We made use of these often.IMG_2264

Supper that evening was at one of our favourite restaurants, Coral Reef.  It’s not everyday you get to eat below the water level of a huge aquarium!  IMG_2238

How’s this for a table with a view?!IMG_2240

By far the most amazing thing that happened was this massive ray floating down and resting right beside us!!  We’ve eaten here many times and this is the first time we’ve ever seen this beautiful lady let alone had her join us for dinner!  Look how huge she is!IMG_2253

IMG_2254

The entire restaurant started talking when she showed up!  We were there for about another 15 minutes and she stayed there for the rest of our visit.

After supper we took time to do an activity that Hannah really enjoys called Agent P’s World Showcase Adventure.  Using our phone we helped Agent P capture a villain first in Mexico and then after that another villain in Germany.  As we would walk through the countries we would be given clues about where to go next and what to do.  Based on where we were and what actions we took with the phone, different things would happen.  In Mexico she sat on the fountain and after keying in a password, looked up to see a volcano erupting across the pavilion. IMG_2261

In Germany she did something and these steins sang her a song!

We had 8 days in the parks which allowed us time to slow down and do some of these activities that we might otherwise skip.  On our next Epcot day we participated is a really fun scavenger hunt!  More on that in another post.

The end of our first great day in Epcot!IMG_2267
