Toronto Star Article

I received a call from my agency rep on Wednesday of this week asking if I'd be interested in doing an interview with the Toronto Star as they were doing an article on the changing face of International Adoptions.

I was thrilled to be asked and couldn't say 'yes' fast enough! Leslie called Wednesday afternoon and we probably chatted for 15 to 20 mins. She asked questions about when I expected my referral; how long had I been waiting; when had I started the process; why China? and, my thoughts on the wait.

While it was exciting to be interviewed for such a large paper I was also concerned that they might somehow spin things in a way I hadn't meant. They didn't do so and I feel she captured me well.

You can imagine my surprise this morning when I went to the grocery store to find that the article written was the front page story for today!! There was a portion on page 1 of the paper and then a page further on in the first section of the paper was devoted totally to International Adoption and featured 3 different articles!

I believe Leslie gave a very fair view of the changing face of International Adoption. Even I was surprised by her statement that 1/6 couples face infertility issues and are unable to conceive the first year. Wow! That number is much higher than I'd ever realized.

It was fun to read the article and see what she had chosen to write from our interview but I tell you, when I saw Hannah's name in print is was instant tears for me!

I am glad to see that this topic is of such interest and concern and I hope that many who may never had a reason/opportunity to read about international adoption might have learned something today.

  1. Woohoo - way to go Catherine - the article is very good.

How exciting!!! Save a copy for Hannah forsure!!!

LOVE you so much friend!! I can not wait for her to finally come home!!! :)

  3. Good work. Will you still be my friend now that you're famous?? :) Hannah will be very proud of her Mama when she reads this article later in life. Way to go!

  4. Raced to read the article as soon as Gord brought the paper in. So exciting!!! Glad they presented such a wonderful overview - and it was thrilling to see Hannah's name!!!

    Love ya,

  5. This is very cool!

What a great thing to place in Hannah's life book!

  7. Let's try that again...

That was a very nice article, Catherine. I think you and the reporter both did an excellent job. (Although I really cringed at Blugerman's comment about Africa being "the new frontier." That was a very unfortunate phrase... there's a better way to say that.)

  8. Oh good I'm glad you posted this, I thought maybe you wouldn't- did you get my email? :O) It's a great article and I just loved your attitude, as always- your positive spirit shines through.

  9. Catherine this is so awesome! I just wish I could read the article!!! When you have a chance visit our blog and read about my big news, I am pretty excited too!! Have a very blessed Sunday.

    Love and blessings, Krisyt

  10. Great job with the article! I would have cried too if I saw LiLi's name in the paper. Hang in there, you're almost there!!!

  11. You're right, it did portray you well....don't forget the little people. :-)

  12. That's a pretty cool memento you'll have now for Hannah's baby book.

  13. Hey,
I did read the article and was so excited when you were quoted... I yelled to Danny in the other room. The article was well written, but somewhat misleading about Vietnam... even TDH has had few adoption completed start to finish in 9 months...
You'll be getting even more hits to your blog now... wow!

  14. Nice job Catherine! And way to keep a positive attitude when I know it has been a heartwrenching journey. But in the end ALL well worth the wait for Miss Hannah! Hugs from Montana!!!!

  15. Read it, loved it, def. a memento for Hannah's lifebook!

    Keep smilin!

  16. Your famous AND in print! It was a great article. Congrats~

  17. Interesting article. It seemed to have suddenly STOPPED near the end. But then, I don't think you can cover all the highs and lows and ins and outs of adoption in any single article.

  18. wow that was some article..the title is SCARY!....sounds like they did their homework glad because some of these articles I read are so completely off!!!

  19. Nice article. So good to be putting it out there for others to be more aware!

  20. In my TTC days the statistic was 1/7 couples. Infertility must be on the rise.

  21. That was a nice article. Your such a rock star!
