Back in December I was excited to receive an invitation to attend the final broadcast of Erin Davis. She has been my primary morning radio show host for almost 30 years so it was an honour to be invited! It was an easy decision to invite Norma to join me.
It was an e-e-early morning as we needed to be at Casa Loma in Toronto by 5:00am. Wanting as good a seat as we could get we were there shortly after 4am. LOL!
Casa Loma is absolutely beautiful both at night and during the day!
We ended up sitting at a table just feet from where they were broadcasting so we could see and hear it all!
I wasn’t sure if we would have an opportunity to meet Erin but she quickly began visiting tables between broadcast times. (Wow! There is a lot that goes on behind the scenes of a radio broadcast!)
When I first began my adoption journey I emailed Erin about something and she put me in touch with a friend of hers who had adopted her daughters from China. It was neat to meet Erin in person and say thank you for that contact! When I received Hannah’s referral, CHFI played my song request the day before I saw Hannah’s picture for the first time (Aug 28, 2009)
And then did a follow up interview on the radio the following Monday. (Aug 31, 2009)
Over the years Erin has shared her morning hosting duties with a few different co-hosts and Mike was my favourite by far. They just clicked and often had me in stitches! It’s always a treat to wake up with a smile on my face due to the fun things they shared on air. Mike asking ‘Who are you wearing?’
Mike also came by for a visit so it was a treat to meet him too!
I’m not a big ‘star’ person but I will say it was neat to meet the people behind the voices I’ve listened to for years.
Erin and Mike sharing a bit of their revised version of ‘Baby It’s Cold Outside.’ What fun!
Erin and her husband Rob have moved to the beautiful island of Victoria, BC. All the best!!
And, thank you Erin! It feels like you’ve been a friend for years even though this was the first time we’d met. I’m looking forward to reading and listening to your journal and hearing about your new adventures.
That is so neat! You're a dedicated fan to get up so early, but it looks like it was totally worth it!
ReplyDeletemade me get teary eyed, what a lovely lovely story Catherine
ReplyDeleteOh that is so amazing!! I teared up all over again listening to the request video. So wonderful that you got to meet Erin in person!!
ReplyDeleteWhile I'm a CBC person as I need news, I occasionally would switch on Erin, especially after the death of her lovely daughter. You're very right, she was wonderful and she and Mike had that radio magic. I cried her last day! It's amazing how people you don't know can have an impact. How special you went to see the last broadcast!
